How to Configure an IPv6 Snooping Policy

Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to configure IPv6 Snooping Policy :

SUMMARY STEPS

  1. configure terminal
  2. ipv6 snooping policy policy-name
  3. end
  4. show ipv6 snooping policy policy-name

DETAILED STEPS

  Command or Action Purpose

Example:

Device(config-ipv6-snooping)# security-level inspect

Example:

Device(config-ipv6-snooping)# trusted-port
Step 1

configure terminal

Example:

Device# configure terminal

Enters the global configuration mode.

Step 2

ipv6 snooping policy policy-name

Example:

Device(config)# ipv6 snooping policy example_policy

Creates a snooping policy and enters IPv6 Snooping Policy Configuration mode.

Step 3

Enables data address gleaning, validates messages against various criteria, specifies the security level for messages.

  • (Optional) default —Sets all to default options.

  • (Optional) device-role { node ] | switch }—Specifies the role of the device attached to the port. Default is node .

  • (Optional) limit address-count value—Limits the number of addresses allowed per target.

  • (Optional) no —Negates a command or sets it to defaults.

  • (Optional) protocol { dhcp | ndp }—Specifies which protocol should be redirected to the snooping feature for analysis. The default, is dhcp and ndp . To change the default, use the no protocol command.

  • (Optional) security-level { glean | guard | inspect }—Specifies the level of security enforced by the feature. Default is guard.

    • glean —Gleans addresses from messages and populates the binding table without any verification.
    • guard —Gleans addresses and inspects messages. In addition, it rejects RA and DHCP server messages. This is the default option.
    • inspect —Gleans addresses, validates messages for consistency and conformance, and enforces address ownership.
  • (Optional) tracking { disable | enable }—Overrides the default tracking behavior and specifies a tracking option.

  • (Optional) trusted-port —Sets up a trusted port. It disables the guard on applicable targets. Bindings learned through a trusted port have preference over bindings learned through any other port. A trusted port is given preference in case of a collision while making an entry in the table.

Step 4

end

Example:

Device(config-ipv6-snooping)# exit

Exits configuration modes to Privileged EXEC mode.

Step 5

show ipv6 snooping policy policy-name

Example:

Device#show ipv6 snooping policy example_policy

Displays the snooping policy configuration.

How to Configure IPv6 Neighbor Tracking

Perform this task to provide fine tuning for the life cycle of an entry in the binding table for the IPv6 Device Tracking feature. For IPv6 device tracking to work, the binding table needs to be populated.
Note

A single IPv6 client can have multiple IPv6 addresses at any given time. When you execute the command show ipv6 neighbor binding mac mac_address , these addresses display the state as REACHABLE in the IPv6 neighbor binding table for that client's MAC address. If there is no control activity on these addresses for 300 seconds, they move to STALE state and become unusable by the client thereafter.

ipv6 neighbor tracking command is used to send periodic probes (default time period is 300 seconds) to all IPv6 clients to ensure that the client's IPv6 address(s) do not age out and move to STALE state. These probes are sent from the switch with a source IP address of all zeros which is a Duplicate address detection (DAD) probe.

There are a few clients which do not respond to DAD probes and hence age out after 300 seconds. Follow the steps below to configure IPv6 Neighbor Tracking.

SUMMARY STEPS

  1. enable
  2. configure terminal
  3. ipv6 neighbor tracking [retry-interval value ]
  4. interface vlan vlan-id
  5. ipv6 enable
  6. exit
  7. vlan configuration vlan_list
  8. ipv6 snooping [attach-policy policy_name]
  9. end

DETAILED STEPS

  Command or Action Purpose
Step 1

enable

Example:

Device> enable

Enables privileged EXEC mode.

  • Enter your password if prompted.

Step 2

configure terminal

Example:

Device# configure terminal

Enters global configuration mode.

Step 3

ipv6 neighbor tracking [retry-interval value ]

Example:

Device(config)# ipv6 neighbor tracking

Tracks entries in the binding table.

Step 4

interface vlan vlan-id

Example:

Device(config)# interface vlan 1810

Enters interface configuration mode, and enters the VLAN to which the IP information is assigned. The range is 1 to 4094.

Step 5

ipv6 enable

Example:

Device(config-if)# ipv6 vlan

Enables IPv6 processing on an interface that has not been configured with an explicit IPv6 address.

Step 6

exit

Example:

Device(config-if)# exit

Exits interface configuration mode.

Step 7

vlan configuration vlan_list

Example:

Device(config)# vlan configuration 1815

Specifies the VLANs to which the IPv6 Snooping policy will be attached ; enters the VLAN interface configuration mode.

Step 8

ipv6 snooping [attach-policy policy_name]

Example:

Device(config-vlan-config)# ipv6 snooping attach-policy example_policy

Attaches the IPv6 Snooping policy to the specified VLANs across all switch and stack interfaces. The default policy is attached if the attach-policy option is not used. The default policy is, security-level guard, device-role node, protocol ndp and dhcp.

Step 9

end

Example:

Device(config-vlan-config)# end

Exits configuration mode.

How to Attach an IPv6 Snooping Policy to an Interface

Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to attach an IPv6 Snooping policy on an interface or VLAN:

SUMMARY STEPS

  1. configure terminal
  2. interface Interface_type stack/module/port
  3. switchport
  4. ipv6 snooping [attach-policy policy_name [ vlan {vlan_id | add vlan_ids | except vlan_ids | none | remove vlan_ids}] | vlan {vlan_id | add vlan_ids | except vlan_ids | none | remove vlan_ids | all } ]
  5. do show running-config

DETAILED STEPS

  Command or Action Purpose
Step 1

configure terminal

Example:

Device# configure terminal

Enters the global configuration mode.

Step 2

interface Interface_type stack/module/port

Example:

Device(config)# interface gigabitethernet 1/1/4

Specifies an interface type and identifier; enters the interface configuration mode.

Step 3

switchport

Example:

Device(config-if)# switchport

Enters the Switchport mode.

Note

To configure Layer 2 parameters, if the interface is in Layer 3 mode, you must enter the switchport interface configuration command without any parameters to put the interface into Layer 2 mode. This shuts down the interface and then re-enables it, which might generate messages on the device to which the interface is connected. When you put an interface that is in Layer 3 mode into Layer 2 mode, the previous configuration information related to the affected interface might be lost, and the interface is returned to its default configuration. The command prompt displays as (config-if)# in Switchport configuration mode.

Step 4

ipv6 snooping [attach-policy policy_name [ vlan {vlan_id | add vlan_ids | except vlan_ids | none | remove vlan_ids}] | vlan {vlan_id | add vlan_ids | except vlan_ids | none | remove vlan_ids | all } ]

Example:

Device(config-if)# ipv6 snooping or Device(config-if)# ipv6 snooping attach-policy example_policy or Device(config-if)# ipv6 snooping vlan 111,112 or Device(config-if)# ipv6 snooping attach-policy example_policy vlan 111,112

Attaches a custom ipv6 snooping policy to the interface or the specified VLANs on the interface. To attach the default policy to the interface, use the ipv6 snooping command without the attach-policy keyword. To attach the default policy to VLANs on the interface, use the ipv6 snooping vlan command. The default policy is, security-level guard , device-role node , protocol ndp and dhcp.

Step 5

do show running-config

Example:

Device#(config-if)# do show running-config

Verifies that the policy is attached to the specified interface without exiting the interface configuration mode.

How to Attach an IPv6 Snooping Policy to a Layer 2 EtherChannel Interface

Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to attach an IPv6 Snooping policy on an EtherChannel interface or VLAN:

Procedure

  Command or Action Purpose
Step 1

configure terminal

Example:

Device# configure terminal

Enters the global configuration mode.

Step 2

interface range Interface_name

Example:

Device(config)# interface range Po11

Specify the port-channel interface name assigned when the EtherChannel was created. Enters the interface range configuration mode.

Tip

Enter the do show interfaces summary command for quick reference to interface names and types.

Step 3

ipv6 snooping [attach-policy policy_name [ vlan {vlan_ids | add vlan_ids | except vlan_ids | none | remove vlan_ids | all } ] | vlan [ {vlan_ids | add vlan_ids | except vlan_ids | none | remove vlan_ids | all } ]

Example:

Device(config-if-range)# ipv6 snooping attach-policy example_policy or Device(config-if-range)# ipv6 snooping attach-policy example_policy vlan 222,223,224 or Device(config-if-range)#ipv6 snooping vlan 222, 223,224

Attaches the IPv6 Snooping policy to the interface or the specified VLANs on that interface. The default policy is attached if the attach-policy option is not used.

Step 4

do show running-config interface portchannel_interface_name

Example:

Device#(config-if-range)# do show running-config int po11

Confirms that the policy is attached to the specified interface without exiting the configuration mode.

Everyday our lives are governed by habit. These habits are the little routines and small ways of doing things. Most people are unaware or are only slightly aware that they’re doing them.

Some habits, like smoking, can have harmful effects on your health; others like procrastination can affect your work and career.

Therefore it’s important to take back control. This can be extremely hard, some habits after all are so ingrained that we do them without thinking. Luckily there are many habits tracking apps available especially designed to help you to set goals, keep track of your habits and tackle your bad habits for free.

Here’re 24 best habit trackers recommended to you:

Making Your Android Mountable

Once your device is set up as trackable, whether using Android Device Manager or a third-party app, there’s only thing left to do: attach the device to the person or object that you want to track. Obviously, this is much easier said than done.

The easiest and most effective option is to use a magnetic car mount. Most kits come with a magnetic insert that you place inside your device case along with a magnetic base that you mount somewhere. With a good model, the magnetic force should be strong enough for your phone to “snap” onto the base and stay there even across bumpy terrain.

The WizGear air vent mount is very convenient. If you’d rather stick the mount on some other surface, perhaps out of sight, then consider the WizGear suction cup mount (meant for dashboards but can be used elsewhere). If you don’t have a phone case, you can use adhesive metal plates instead, such as these by Pop-Tech .

5 Free Goal / Habit Tracking Apps That Are the Best

    Chandru 2015-07-07 07 Jul 2015 Chandru 6 1 0

Tracking your habits and goals can be hard especially if you’re trying to have a lot of these. Times used to be much simpler, no doubt, and people had exceptionally good lives in the smartphone-less past but we’re in a different world today. We’re distracted, we’re subjected to information overload, we have very little time to do things that we’d love to (blame it on ourselves) and we’re often running out of breath in keeping up with our goals and habits.

As much as I don’t like to use clichés, the fact is that apps really do help in forming good habits (or breaking bad ones) and keeping track of your goals. In this post, we’re going to take a look at some of the apps that caught my attention and sustained it over the course of a few weeks.

    Rewire

Rewire is my favorite – although the free version only lets you track up to 5 goals/habits. The app works on the philosophy of “streaks”. Once you set a goal/habit to track, you get reminders from the app asking you if you’ve followed the goal/habit for the day. You can choose between Done, Skip and Failed. As you keep to your goal/habit, you’ll see a streak (a chain) building up. On the days you skip, the dots turn blue but the chain continues. On the days you select “Failed”, the dots turn red and your “learning” for that particular habit/goal goes back to zero.

Rewire is interesting in many ways. The visual cue motivates you to keep to your habit but this happens after about 3-5 days of regularly following your habit/goal. You can categorize and colorize the habits, view the progress as bars or pie charts and add widgets to your homescreen.

    Download Rewire

    HabitBull

HabitBull uses the same “streak” philosophy but builds on it. Rewire confines itself to habits and goals and tracking whereas HabitBull introduces a little more: motivational images and countable habits (like eat 3 vegetables a day). Like most other habit/goal tracking apps, HabitBull will remind you everyday about your goals and will ask you about your streak.

The number goals is what gives HabitBull an edge over Rewire. You can set a goal like “eat 3 vegetables a day” and everyday you can input how many you actually ate. This is tracked and you can measure how well you hold up with your initial commitment.

    Download HabitBull

    7 Weeks

7 Weeks works on a simple principle: you have succeeded if you have followed (or broken a bad habit) continuously for 7 weeks. The objective is very similar to streaks but the focus is on two other things: “reasons” (why you have to follow/break this habit) and 7 weeks to success/failure. Unlike the previous two apps we’ve covered, 7 Weeks is kind of gamified. If you can keep up a habit for 49 days, you’ve won the game.

7 Weeks does not feature things like customizable days (where you can set days on which a particular habit is to be followed). In that sense, it’s limiting. You can only use this app for habits or goals that are to be followed everyday but that’s the point of 7 Weeks. However, one interesting feature you can make use of is adding “Reasons” to your habits. This way, you know what the primary motivation is for you to follow (or not follow) a habit.

    Download 7 Weeks

    Pledge

You know how simplicity trumps everything else. Pledge stands testimony to that. Out of all the goal / habit tracking apps I’ve seen, tested and used, Pledge offers the path of least resistance. With its gorgeous UI and an extremely simple way of adding goals/habits (that it calls, smartly, a Pledge), the app tackles habit-formation in a simple, elegant and beautiful way. Pledge has all the bells and whistles but all of that is hidden beneath a very wonderful interface that almost inspires you to get things done.

Pledge does not blatantly use or rely on the “streak” philosophy (although there’s a bit of that hidden underneath). You can set daily or weekly goals only (you can’t customize goals for specific days) but the sheer simplicity of tracking goals through Pledge will probably make up for the limitation. If flat design doesn’t drive you away, Pledge will quickly be your favorite goal tracker.

    Download Pledge

    Streak

I had a tough time deciding between Hanami and Streak. Both are good goal tracking apps. Hanami closely follows material design guidelines and has charts and graphs for a better visual tracking narrative. Streak loses all of that for core minimalism. The latter doesn’t feature glorious charts and tracking metrics. In fact, it doesn’t feature anything other than a big ‘+’ button to add goals (whose weekly frequencies can be 1-7). And then there’s this calendar that you tap if you’ve kept up with your goal/habit for that day. A tap ensures that day is charcoaled out on the calendar.

It’s so minimal that there’s nothing else to do on Streak other than add goals, log your progress for the day. But I think it’s smart in its minimalism.

    Download Streak

So tell us how you set and track your goals and habits!
