    Find My Device

    • Track your phone via GPS
    • Erase your phone remotely
    • Remotely play a sound
    • Lock your phone remotely
    • Works with tablets and smartwatches, too

Google’s Find My Device app is a must-have for Android users and one of our favorite Android apps . If you added a Google Account to your Android device, then Find My Device is automatically turned on. You can check via Settings > Security & lock screen > Device administrators , or Settings > Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Device administrators on a Samsung Galaxy, where there should be a tick next to Find My Device.

The app makes it simple to locate your lost device, all you have to do to get started is download it from the Play Store . After you install the app, it will ask you to log in, and to make sure Location is turned on. You should take a look in Settings > Location , or Settings > Connections > Location on a Samsung Galaxy, and make sure it’s set to High accuracy for best results. Once the app is installed and running, you can locate your device, as long as it’s turned on and connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data.

To track your device, go to  in any browser, whether on your computer or another smartphone. If you’re logged into your Google account you can also just type “find my phone” into Google. If your lost device has access to the internet and location is on you’ll be able to locate it. One of the great features here is that you can lock the device and write a message with an accompanying phone number. That way if someone finds or has your device, all they have to do is press the Call Me button on the screen to call the specified phone number. You can also choose to play a sound or erase the phone remotely if you have no other choice.

Remember that if you track your phone using a browser, you will have to log in to your Google account. If you logged in from someone else’s smartphone or desktop browser, then you’ll want to log out of all your accounts when finished. If you leave your account logged in, anyone with access to that computer will be able to track your smartphone. The app only takes a minute to install and set up, and because it’s so easy to use, it should be your first choice for finding a lost Android device.

Remotely Sense Motion, Movement or Sound

One of the most advanced remote surveillance apps is RL Watcher. This application lets you enable your phone to remotely sense movement, sound or even just the slightest motion of your phone.

Each remote sensor can be individually enabled so that you can receive a notification any time each sensor is tripped. Notifications of any activity can be via SMS, e-mail or by phone. For example, you can set the phone up so that if it moves, it’ll call you at any phone number and you can listen in to whatever is going on where the phone is situated.

Did you ban your teen from using their car? Put your Android phone in the car while you’re at work, and it’ll call you if the car starts moving. Put it in an empty room, and it’ll email you when there’s movement in the room. The possibilities are endless.

You can set up the phone to capture screen shots, video or sound whenever it’s triggered by one of the sensors. Here, I’ve set up the phone to sense motion. It sends you an alert when the sensor gets triggered and it’ll even attach the snapshots.

This is probably one of the most flexible and feature-filled surveillance apps that can really help with any of your remote parenting needs. Monitor your new teen driver or make sure your kids aren’t throwing a party while you’re away from home – your remote Android surveillance unit can really set your mind at ease when you’re a parent.

Get it by scanning this QR code with your Android phone’s camera.

    7. Put Your Name on It

One day you leave your phone behind, but you get lucky—a good Samaritan finds it and wants to return it to you. But how will they know whom it belongs to? Android will let you put your name, email address, and an alternate phone number on your lock screen so that someone who picks up the device will know it's yours, but won't have access to any of the other info on your phone. To add your details, go into the Settings menu on your phone and then select Security, Screen Security, and then Owner Info.

Why not go with an app installed on said server or monitoring to to do the job? And appdroid app would have to always be able to reach the server but assuming you take the android device home, would it have access?

i would tend to agree with dash render on this ...

try and find an app that you can put on the server and connect to remotely using the android device

Spiceworks can actually do this to a limited degree.  SW can send you an email when a server has been down x or more mins.  I haven't look into it sending an SMS, but if your cell phone carrier has an SMS email gateway, you could have spiceworks send an email to your phone's SMS email address and you'll receive the alert on your phone.

Think about this for a second:  You wan an app on your phone that will send you an email or SMS to your phone if the server is down?  I think what you are really wanting is an app that will act as a server monitor and notify you (using the notification bar) when something goes down... :)

If these servers are available externally, you use something like Overlook Whiz (mostly geared for webserver kind of monitoring).

Barring this, like the others said, if you have Spiceworks configured, it should do mostly what you want it to, pending your phone has a proper data/cell connection.

Side note: I believe if you have Google Voice, you get an email address associated with your account and can have items emailed to your Google Voice account as a text message (need to look into this).

    +1 Overlook Whiz.

I have mine set up with 5 Widgets: Domain Controller, Filer Server, Email Server, MIS access and Gateway Router. If all but the Router go down then power is out to the Server Rack. If all 5 go down then either the Router is down or power is out to the building.

It works by pinging and trying to connect to webservers. You can configure the polling interval. I have mine set not to poll via mobile network connection to save battery and money. Drawback is that if you do that then you can only specify one WiFi network to poll by. I specify my home WiFi because if I am not at work then I am at home - if a server goes down while I am shopping or visiting my kids then they can go do the other thing. If a server goes down while I am at work, then a user will notify me before the phone would anyway!

Nice idea guys, you havent got it right.

Use a android phone in your network as a simple and cheap monitoring agent sound good.

It will send alerts without the monitored infrastructureand will even work when power goes down.

I like to find that app for my self.

Try taking a look at PC Monitor. ..

It interfaces with software you install on the system to be monitored, and will report directly to your android device.
