Recently, XDA Elite Recognized Developer AdamOutler got a hold of a Samsung Galaxy Camera. First thing he did was unbox it, then he tore it apart, and finally he rooted it. For your normal user that is plenty, but AdamOutler wanted more than an Android Camera. In this video AdamOutler talks about some of the hacks that are working on the Samsung Galaxy Camera. He talks about installing a VNC Server on the Galaxy Camera and using a tablet as a remote viewfinder and to control the camera. He then talks about hooking up an external microphone to your Galaxy Camera. Finally he talks about the open Galaxy Bootloader and eMMC.Important Links:Unboxing The Samsung Galaxy Camera: http://www.xda-developers.com/android...Teardown The Samsung Galaxy Camera: http://www.xda-developers.com/android...Rooting The Galaxy Camera: http://www.xda-developers.com/android...Booting from SDCard Disable: http://www.xda-developers.com/android...External Microphone: http://www.xda-developers.com/android...Open Galaxy Bootloader: http://www.xda-developers.com/android...Music by Positively Dark

    Are Android Spy Apps Legal?

The first thing that we would like to say that if you chose any on the applications from our top 10 Android spy apps list, we would like to point out that there is a strong line between law and ethics. As far the law is concerned, you need to advise the person that you will install spy software on their android device, on the other hand, if the device is registered to your name you can install spy software without notifying anybody about it. Now, as far as ethics are concerned on this matter, we strongly suggest that no matter whose device is at hand, that you inform that person on the matter of the spyware that you are willing to install on their mobile device. We strongly suggest this because opinions on this matter differ prom person to person. Some will realize that having spy software on their android device will increase their overall security while other will have a hard time accepting that you will have a total insight on their personal affairs.

Here’s how to track an Android phone, tablet, or smartwatch

    By Simon Hill @iamsimonhill — Posted on July 7, 2018 - 12:00PM 7.7.18 - 12:00PM Share on Facebook Tweet this Share

No matter how cautious you are with your electronic devices, there is a good chance you’ve endured the awful experience of losing a smartphone . Whether it occurs after a raucous night out with friends, or you had the unlucky experience of running into a skilled pickpocket, it’s always a drag to reach for your digital friend only to come up empty.

Luckily for Android users, there are apps and services specifically designed for tracking down and locating lost or stolen smartphones. To help you sift through the sea of available options, we compiled this list of the absolute best methods for finding and retrieving lost Android devices. Let’s take a closer look at how to track an Android phone.

Note: Digital Trends doesn’t condone the use of these phone trackers for anything other than locating a lost or stolen Android phone. While these apps work wonders for finding a wayward phone, it’s never cool to be a creep. Please use sound judgment when employing the following services. You should also be aware that you can’t track your phone unless it’s switched on and connected to a mobile or Wi-Fi network.

    Find My Device

    Features:

    • Track your phone via GPS
    • Erase your phone remotely
    • Remotely play a sound
    • Lock your phone remotely
    • Works with tablets and smartwatches, too

Google’s Find My Device app is a must-have for Android users and one of our favorite Android apps . If you added a Google Account to your Android device, then Find My Device is automatically turned on. You can check via Settings > Security & lock screen > Device administrators , or Settings > Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Device administrators on a Samsung Galaxy, where there should be a tick next to Find My Device.

The app makes it simple to locate your lost device, all you have to do to get started is download it from the Play Store . After you install the app, it will ask you to log in, and to make sure Location is turned on. You should take a look in Settings > Location , or Settings > Connections > Location on a Samsung Galaxy, and make sure it’s set to High accuracy for best results. Once the app is installed and running, you can locate your device, as long as it’s turned on and connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data.

To track your device, go to android.com/find  in any browser, whether on your computer or another smartphone. If you’re logged into your Google account you can also just type “find my phone” into Google. If your lost device has access to the internet and location is on you’ll be able to locate it. One of the great features here is that you can lock the device and write a message with an accompanying phone number. That way if someone finds or has your device, all they have to do is press the Call Me button on the screen to call the specified phone number. You can also choose to play a sound or erase the phone remotely if you have no other choice.

Remember that if you track your phone using a browser, you will have to log in to your Google account. If you logged in from someone else’s smartphone or desktop browser, then you’ll want to log out of all your accounts when finished. If you leave your account logged in, anyone with access to that computer will be able to track your smartphone. The app only takes a minute to install and set up, and because it’s so easy to use, it should be your first choice for finding a lost Android device.

    Google Play

    Find My Phone

    Previous Next 1 of 2

    Features:

    • See the GPS location of your phone via the app’s built-in map
    • Keep tabs on missing or lost phones with real-time updates
    • Receive navigational assistance from the app when locating a phone
    • Delete any messages from a tracked phone

Family Safety Productions’ app Find My Phone makes it incredibly easy to find lost or stolen Android phones. You can also use the app to track the smartphones of any family member who syncs their phone to the program. When hunting down a lost or stolen phone, the application provides real-time location updates, which constantly change as the phone in question moves. The app also provides accurate GPS directions, and relies on its triangulation algorithm to produce a spot-on location.

The application’s easy-to-use website allows for quick viewing of all synced phones, and also provides the same real-time mapping as the application. Considering that the app is free, Find My  Phone remains one of the best options for locating your Android device if it’s either fallen victim to a long night on the town, or become the object of a thief’s obsession .

    Google Play

    Lost Android

    Features:

    • Read sent and received SMS messages via your computer
    • Wipe your phone or SD card’s memory remotely
    • Start a flashing screen alarm on the phone
    • Forward any calls to a desired number of your choice
    • Start and stop your device’s Wi-Fi and GPS functions
    • Locate your phone via a GPS or network connection

Lost Android is a little bit different and it can do a lot more than just find your lost Android device. It offers an incredible number of features and benefits, many of which remain exclusive to this impressive app, but before we dig in it’s worth mentioning that some of this functionality doesn’t work with newer versions of Android.

For starters, you have the ability to automatically forward any SMS messages received on your phone to your email inbox, and even have the option of sending SMS messages directly from your computer . Lost Android also allows you to activate a remote-controlled alarm, even if your phone is in “Silent Mode.” Moreover, the app allows you to wipe any content from a lost phone, forward all calls sent to the phone, and produce a pop-up message that lets any would-be thieves know to return the device ASAP.

Like Find My Phone, Lost Android doesn’t cost a dime to download, and the fact it affords its users a laundry list of available benefits makes it an attractive solution to find your phone.

How to force Android to use only GPS to estimate the location

    2016-03-24 by tune ·

As you probably know Android operating system is very smart to locate you. It uses GPS, nearby Wi-Fi networks and mobile data for location purposes. But it is not always clear which method it uses right now to locate your device. So you may want to force your Android device to use  GPS only  to estimate your location to test the work of the GPS module in your device (define its accuracy and sensitivity) or to find out which positioning method works better in a particular area. And here is how to do this.

Your Android device, if allowed, can continually keep track of your location by using its internal GPS system. That process can place a heavy drain on the battery. Fortunately, the developers of Android thought of this and included a way to track your location without draining your battery. Instead of depending on the GPS system, Android can use Wi-Fi for location detection. This means your phone will only truly know its location when it's connected to a wireless network. Given the pros and cons, I'm fairly certain most would prefer the extended battery life over having an exact location at all times.

But how do you configure your Android smartphone for this? Open up the Settings app and go to Location. In this window, you 'll find an entry called Mode. Tap that to reveal an overlay ( Figure A ) asking you to select from:

    • High Accuracy: This is the battery draining culprit, as it uses GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks to determine your location. As the name implies, this is the most accurate form of location tracking for your device. If precision location is critical for your device usage, leave this option enabled.
    • Battery saving: This option drops the GPS and uses only Wi-Fi and mobile networks to determine location. For most users, this will be the most optimal choice for saving your battery.
    • Device only: This option only uses GPS for determining location. This will use less battery than High Accuracy, but more than Battery saving. This option is also more reliable (for accuracy) than the Battery saving option (but not as accurate as High Accuracy).

    Figure A

Changing location accuracy on a Verizon-branded HTC M8.

Tap Battery Saving to drop GPS from location detection. You should now enjoy much more battery life from your Android device.

Does your job require higher location accuracy or more battery life? On a security level, should there be some concern to constant, accurate device tracking? What are your thoughts?
